Georgia is even farther east than California, so by this logic, sunset should be later in Georgia than it is in California. But because California is closer to the equator, the sun will be setting over a lower northernly latitude, which means that it will be farther from the horizon at its lowest point in the sky. This makes it seem like sunrise is later because there are still many hours left before sunset.
