Music key signatures are sharp and flat right after the clef symbol. Throughout the composition, these sharps and flats (accidentals) impact every note on the line or space they represent. The only times they don't impact a note are when it has a natural sign or when the key changes. Sharp signs go above the staff while flat signs go below it.
Sharps and flats are used to indicate what kind of note should be played. For example, if the note marked "sharp" is B then it should be played as though it were a C.
