HOROSCOPES Planetary signs determine our lives and guide us in our quest for wisdom. Each planet brings with it its own qualities and challenges which we must face if we are to grow as individuals. The ancients believed that by understanding these directions we can use them to find our way.
The planetary positions at any given moment reveal much about our past, present, and future. By studying their interactions we can see how these forces shape our lives. It is because of this that the study of astrology is so important; it is through this knowledge that we can better understand ourselves and our world.
The eight planets are Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Pluto.

The Planet in Charge of Your Birth Chart
That is your governing planet, my friend:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and the hypothetical Planet Nine are in the following order, starting closest to the sun and going outward: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and then the possible Planet Nine.
The current understanding of planetary astronomy is that all planets orbit the sun, but some orbits are more elliptical than others. The four terrestrial planets (Earth, Venus, Mars, and Mercury) each present-day orbital geometry that results in a single day on their surfaces. But the other five planets have very eccentric orbits, with periods ranging from 3.5 days for Uranus to 12 years for Pluto. The average distance between the centers of these planets and the sun is called the solar radius.
But even though they lie within this radius, they do not travel around it like cars on a highway because each planet has its own unique orbit. Instead, the planets move along a large circle within the solar system known as an ellipse. This is because of the effect that gravity has on them; it causes objects with mass to curve space-time around them. As a result, all the planets except Mercury follow an ellipse with the sun at one of its foci (the term focus means "a point where something focuses").
For example, you may discover that you have a Gemini 7th house. Mercury is Gemini's governing planet. The Chart Report will tell you which house your Mercury is in.... The Seventh House is concerned with you.
