What are the three yogic paths to moksha?

While there are several techniques that may be used to obtain moksha, there are three basic yoga methods to self-liberation. Karma Yoga (the road of action and good actions), Bhakti Yoga (the path of devotion to God), and Jnana Yoga are the three yogic routes to self-liberation and moksha (the path of knowledge and wisdom).

In other words, karma yoga is based on performing actions worthy of praise, such as helping others, while bhakti yoga is based on feeling love and joy for God. Finally, jnana yoga uses one's mind and intellect to understand reality and achieve liberation.

Karma yoga is the only sure route to heaven. Even if you perform great deeds, if you do not have faith in God, if you do not love Him with all your heart, then you will not reach salvation. Only through His mercy can one attain moksha or liberation from death.

Even though bhakti and jnana yoga paths seem to lead to the same goal, only those who follow the karma yoga path will reach salvation. Why? Because only those who act properly and never lose sight of the need to improve their own behavior can hope to reach heaven when they die.

The bhakti and jnana yogis who live in ignorance of their true nature and who are engaged in many evil activities will suffer in hell after death.

What do Hindus believe you achieve by reaching the state of moksha?

Moksha is a concept essential to Indian philosophy and faiths such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The only way to achieve full freedom, serenity, pleasure, and oneness with the Divine, it is claimed, is to achieve moksha. However, this view can't be found in all schools of Hinduism.

In Hinduism, moksha means release from the cycle of death and rebirth. It is achieved when a person discharges all their sins through good actions and becomes free from all attachment including that to God. At that time, the soul is believed to be released into immortality.

For most Hindus, liberation from the cycle of birth and death can only be achieved after many more lives have been lived. Only then will all sin be cleansed and the soul will be freed from the cycle of reincarnation. However, for some people who reach an advanced age or under special circumstances, moksha can be achieved in this life itself. This depends on one's actions while living on earth.

Hindus believe that releasing millions of souls every single year is one of the greatest duties of a human being. If someone has the ability and the motivation to release even one soul, they say it is better than releasing thousands of others. Because of this reason, most Hindus spend their last days doing good deeds to release as many souls as possible before dying.
