Can we keep our heads in the North West?

Sleeping in the east is said to be beneficial to one's health. The sun is to blame. According to Vastu Shastra, sleeping in the east direction is beneficial, whereas sleeping with your head in the west direction is not. It is believed that if you can sleep with your head in the north-west corner of the bed, it will protect you from insanity.

But these days, more and more people are using special beds called "mirror images" or "converse beds". These allow you to sleep in any direction without affecting your health.

The concept of Vastu Shastra is based on the belief that the layout of a house influences its destiny. It believes that buildings have a soul and that this soul can be seen in their architecture. As far as houses are concerned, it claims that whatever space you use wisely, it will bring success in life.

According to Vastu Shastra, rooms should be arranged so that they are symmetrical and balanced. The idea behind this claim is that things which are equal to each other will remain unchanged over time. If you arrange your room according to this theory, then it will help you maintain its shape even after many years. However, this is only true if you follow some basic guidelines.

Should you sleep with your head to the east?

It is best to sleep with your head turned east or south. The optimal sleeping position allows for unrestricted blood flow. This improves attention for everyday duties, maintains excellent health, promotes deep and restorative sleep, and balances your inner and outer worlds.

The traditional advice that you should sleep with your head towards the east comes from ancient cultures all over the world. It is believed that if you can see the rising sun, then it will not be able to wake you up in the morning. As long as the sun is visible at some point during the night, you will experience no problems turning your head to face it.

There are several reasons why this advice should be followed. First of all, it avoids waking up in the morning when sunlight hits your eyes directly. Secondly, not seeing the moon or stars will not cause you any harm as long as it does not influence your sleep pattern. Finally, looking towards the east represents balance between earth and sky, body and soul. Sleeping with your head turned in another direction would be like ignoring one of these elements. That could be dangerous because if the earth starts moving without warning or something else important is trying to get your attention but you aren't listening, then it might be too late to change direction before you hit the ground.

People have been following this tradition for thousands of years using firelight as a source of light.

Is it better to sleep to the east or to the north?

This is a decent sleeping orientation; it is not as awful as facing north, but it does not bring any of the benefits of sleeping to the east. The magnetic fields are polar opposite, pulling you south to north while your body is facing north to south, causing difficulty sleeping owing to opposing energy waves. However, if you do face this direction when lying down, it would be best to cover yourself with a compass needle to cancel out these negative effects.

The best way to sleep is standing up. Admittedly, this is difficult to do, but it is extremely beneficial for your health. When you sleep in a prone position, you lose muscle tension and become more relaxed. This is particularly important for people who suffer from insomnia or anxiety disorders. Prone sleeping also reduces the amount of oxygen you breathe, which helps you fall asleep faster. Last, but not least, being upright during sleep increases blood flow to the brain, which makes you feel more alert after waking up.

For most of us, though, sitting up in bed is not an option. We need to lie down at some point during the night, so we might as well make it a good one. Facing north brings no benefits for anyone who can't see that direction, so let's just focus on the east and west directions.

It has been suggested that if you can't go east or west, then you should at least try north and south.
